Jewell: Some players let themselves down

Ipswich manager Paul Jewell was disappointed with the efforts of his team after he watched them exit the Carling Cup.
Despite taking the lead and making wholesale changes, the Tractor Boys went down 2-1 to Northampton Town at Portman Road.
“We’re obviously disappointed to be out of the competition and some players let themselves down tonight,” Jewell told Ipswich’s official website.
“We played some decent football but their keeper only had one save to make at the end of the day.
“We can take something from the game,” Jewell added after the first-round defeat.
“Jack Ainsley was terrific in the middle of the defence, which is not his accustomed position, and Jay showed flashes of brilliance.
“But the result showed we are still a million miles from where we want to be.”
